The Luling Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge over the Mississippi River in Louisiana. It was the third major cable-stayed bridge in the United States. The bridge is noted for its unique design. Unfortunately, however, the inside of the Luling developed significant rust due to a design flaw.
That’s where we came in to help.
We were hired for pressure washing and the SP-2 hand-tool cleaning of 140,000 square feet of wind fairing steel; patching of 2,500 square feet of voids in wind fairing with an epoxy/urethane fiberglass coating system; and the application of an epoxy/urethane fiberglass coating system to the interior of the wind fairing steel to the tune of approximately 140,000 square feet.
This is a job that we’re proud to have our name on. A unique challenge calls for a unique solution – and we delivered.
Thomas Industrial Coatings was hired to work on the Tainter gates for the Decordova Bend Dam project.
This undertaking involved full containment, blasting to an SSPC-SP5 white metal condition and recoating of 16 Tainter gates and the stop logs for the Brazois River Authority.
Thomas Industrial Coatings was brought in on the Creal Springs Tank Farm project which involved abrasive blasting and coating the new fuel storage tanks in southern Illinois. Robotic blasting was used for the large majority of the work.

The Point Loma Submarine Base New Tank Farm project involves abrasive blasting and coating 11 tanks, and miles and miles of piping for the Point Loma Naval Base in San Diego, CA. This large-scale project is scheduled for completion in late 2012. Like with any of our military work, we’re proud to serve the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.
The Lavon Lakes Tainter gates project involved full containment, blasting to an SSPC-SP5 white-metal condition and the recoating of the Tainter gates for the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Fort Worth District.
The Tainter gate is a type of floodgate used in dams and canal locks to control water flow.
This project involved abrasive blasting and the recoating of the interior and exterior sections of the Tainter gates at the lower end of each gate. The general contractor refurbished and replaced sections prior to our work. All work took place from the river using barges and work platforms.
Lock and Dam #24 is located near Clarksville, Missouri on the Mississippi. The main lock is 100 feet wide and 600 feet long. This facility was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
